About Dan Needs a Kidney
I have lived with this disease all my life.
As you may know, or for those of you who don't know, I have a genetic condition called Polycystic Kidney Disease and have been on dialysis since April of 2023. It has been a challenging situation for me as this disease has progressed because it has really accelerated in the last 10 years and it causes me extreme pain and affects my quality of life greatly. The doctor is hoping to remove my native (non-functioning) kidneys and replace them with a healthy kidney from either a deceased donor or a live donor. Live kidney donor kidneys can last up to 20-30 years, where as deceased donor kidneys last usually 10ish years if the recipient is fortunate. Sometimes they can last only a couple of years. Because I am type O blood, the wait for a deceased donor kidney from the transplant list is 4-5 years.
This disease runs in the male line of my family, inherited from my grandfather. My father suffered from it and died in 2019 from complications associated with this disease, my two uncles, and my brother also have it. kidney donor needed

I am passionate about serving the community of Boulder and having the privilege of supporting kids through their high school challenges and teaching them chemistry and biology. Dan is approved for transplant with the National Kidney Registry!
Intermountain Health in Salt Lake City is part of the National Kidney Registry which makes it easy to donate a kidney from all around the country. Any Blood type can apply because its possible for there to be a "Paired Donation" where two people can work together to save two other people's lives by swapping kidneys.
